Romaine lettuce re-integrating into menus
After reviewing recent statements by the Center for
Disease Control, which is not recommending that
U.S. residents avoid any particular leafy green at this time given their short
shelf life, and conferring with our suppliers who assure us their
romaine supply is safe, CFISD's nutrition services department will be adding romaine lettuce back to our menus
over the next few weeks.
Nutrition services will continue to practice safe food handling
at all points of service to ensure quality, nutritious meals are served to all
customers. The well-being of our students is of greatest importance, so
we will monitor for any further releases from the CDC and FDA regarding the
quality of our romaine supply.

event to Hemmenway ES -- Turning Pages, presented by Roy Wooten of Shield
Bearer.
The event created an environment for Hemmenway's pre-k through second-grade students to spend some quality
time with their fathers. During the evening, the families were treated to
dinner, interactive literacy lessons and a book giveaway.

CFPD Back to School Safety Tips
To prepare community members for the back-to-school season, the CFISD police department
issued a series of back-to-school safety tips on social media prior to the first day of school on Aug. 24.
Although the tips are especially important as commuters transition from the summer vacation to the school season, Chief Alan Bragg recommends keeping these tips in mind the entire school year so 2015-2016 can be as safe and rewarding as possible:
- Allow extra time for travel and heavy traffic during the first couple weeks of school.
- Carpool to reduce the number of vehicles at the school.
- Observe the 20 mph school zones.
- Use of cell phones in active school zones is illegal.
- When school zone lights are flashing, slow to 20 MPH and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection.
- School Buses: If the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, traffic must STOP!
- Always stop for a school crossing guard holding up a stop sign.
- Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians!
- Double parking is DANGEROUS; it blocks visibility for other children and vehicles
- Do not load or unload children across the street from the school!
- The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop far enough back to allow them space to safely enter and exit the bus.
- Be alert; children often are unpredictable, and they tend to ignore hazards and take risks.
