Back to School Bus Information

Español

The CFISD transportation department provides regular morning and afternoon bus stops for eligible students attending their home campus as determined by the CFISD established attendance boundaries. Students on a transfer are ineligible for transportation.

Safe and efficient bus stops are established appropriately for each grade level. Each student is pre-assigned by the transportation department to the safest established bus stop for their destination. A student should be picked up and dropped off only at the recommended designated stop.  Bus stops are generally corner stops for elementary students and may be at common, centralized locations such as parks or community centers for middle and high school students. As a courtesy to parents, activity late run buses are provided for eligible after school activities at secondary campuses. Secondary late run bus stops are at centralized locations.

Buses are routed to arrive at campuses 20 minutes prior to school bell time. It is recommended that students begin riding the bus the first day of school so that student bus assignments, student loads and seating assignments may be identified as quickly as possible. For safety reasons, students should arrive at the bus stop 5-10 minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time. Arriving earlier is not recommended.

For the first few weeks of school, several factors contribute to delays: traffic adjusting to the buses, student seat assignments, campus delays while ensuring every student is loaded for take home correctly, possible overcrowding, and route direction adjustments. Please understand that this is a transition time for students and district staff, therefore your patience is appreciated in advance.

Parents/guardians may obtain student’s bus information based on your home address the week of Aug. 14 in the following ways:
  1. postcard via US mail with your student’s bus information;
  2. An email or phone call via CFISD's mass notification system, SchoolMessenger, if opted-in or
  3. By visiting infofinder and viewing your student's bus route.
Per Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines, eligible addresses for transportation within a student’s attendance boundary are:
  1. Home address;
  2. State recognized daycare provider or
  3. A student’s grandparent address.

In accordance with the CFISD student code of conduct, parents of students riding buses to and from an eligible location above, other than their home address, are asked to notify the school in writing.  Once the morning and afternoon bus stop is approved and documented at the school, any one time exception or permanent change requires a parent’s written request. All transportation address requests are contingent upon the school’s verification that the above address criteria is met.

In order to promote a safe and pleasant ride, video cameras may be utilized to assist the driver. All students are expected to adhere to the bus safety rules when being transported by buses or vehicles owned, operated or controlled by the district. Please support these safety standards by reinforcing your student’s role in making the ride to and from school safe and expeditious. View bus safety rules.

Parents, guardians and persons acting in loco parentis should:
A. Understand and support district guidelines and policies, and regulations and principles of  school bus safety;
B. Assist students in understanding safety rules and encourage them to abide by them and
C. Recognize their own responsibilities for the actions of their children.

Understanding this, parents or guardians shall be responsible and accountable for the conduct and safety of their children at all times prior to the arrival and after the departure of the school bus at the assigned school bus stop.
