Schools throughout CFISD have displayed widespread support for children impacted by cancer during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
At Swenke ES, a window wall (pictured above) honors students who are battling or have battled cancer. Students donated $1 to sign the wall, and the school raised $1,000 between signatures and staff donations. Staff who donated $5 or more earned a pass to wear jeans and gold each Tuesday in September.
Many other campuses showed support in a variety of ways:
- Salyards MS raised $1,100 to donate to children's cancer research;
- CFISD librarians all wore gold in a unified show of support;
- On homecoming week, the Jersey Village HS PALS program raised $3,000 to fight childhood cancer;
- The Keith ES staff all wore gold on Sept. 23 to join in support of the cause;
- The Lee ES staff also wore gold to support the effort;
- Cypress Lakes HS students made pillowcases for pillows to comfort childhood cancer patients during their treatment. This was also completed at schools such as Cypress Ridge HS ;
- Warner ES students and staff raised awareness by wearing gold and releasing balloons;
- Horne ES staff wore gold for the cause;
- Hamilton ES staff also showed their support by going gold;
- Kirk ES tied gold ribbons to its front fence;
- Kirk ES staff also wore gold throughout the month; and
- Spillane MS students raised more than $1,600 in a few days and even got to spray AP Senisa Blume's hair gold to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
